The Agriculture Department's acting chief human capital officer Donald Sanders explains the agency's administrative reorganization in simple terms.
It's all about becoming a performance driven and results oriented organization.
Sanders, who spoke recently at the Human Capital Federal Management conference in Arlington, Va., sponsored by Worldwide Business Research, says the Office of Management and Budget is pushing agencies in this direction. OMB has asked agencies to develop three-to-eight high performance goals they can achieve in the next 12-to-18 months.
"We are in the midst of transforming how our HR function supports our core mission areas," he says. "One thing we understand in the future the human resources function will have to play a more active role in engaging senior managers and providing them with the technical consulting they need in terms of people strategies, particularly talent management."
